When a company takes over another company, there is often a sign placed outside the premises announcing, UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT.

Such a sign accurately summarizes what takes place in Christian conversions. When Christ takes over a life, that life is literally under new management.

So consider,.. is God now managing your pride?  Or is your pride still managing you?

If you were asked,What is the most important discovery or accomplishment in your life?” how would you answer the question?

In the year 1847, a doctor from Edinburgh, Sir James Simpson, discovered that chloroform could be used as an anesthetic to render people insensible to the pain of surgery.

From his early experiments, Dr. Simpson made it

possible for people to go through the most dangerous operations without fear of pain and suffering.

His was one of the most significant discoveries of modern medicine.

But some years later, while lecturing at the University of Edinburgh, Dr. Simpson was asked by one of his students, What do you consider to be the most valuable discovery of your lifetime?”

To the surprise of his students, who had expected him to refer to chloroform, Dr. Simpson replied, “My most valuable discovery was when I discovered myself a sinner and that Jesus Christ was my Saviour.”

What great a favor humility can do to and for society.

       How?

It encourages co-operation and respect for other human beings.

A prime example of a humble person is Nelson Mandela. This was a man who suffered almost 30 years of imprisonment for the cause he supported.

On his elevation to the Presidency of South Africa in 1994, Mandela said, "I stand before you filled with deep pride and joy:  pride in the ordinary, humble people of this country - you have shown such a calm, patient determination to reclaim this country as your own; and joy that we can loudly proclaim from the rooftops - Free at last!"

This speech was absolutely filled with humility, words

spoken by a man who thought only of the people;

fought beside them, shared their fate and did not seek to rise above them, but stayed one of them.

Mandela's humility brought him world-wide acclaim; placing him alongside the likes of Mother Theresa and Ghandi.

Humility shakes the hands of the homeless rather than cast in his or her direction a look of disdain.

There is certainly ample opportunity for that here in

downtown churches ...in particular when an homeless man or woman comes to  a worship service on a Sunday morn, and then goes back to join members for lunch...

Do you walk over and give a verbal welcome...

or shake his hand...or...just gravitate to friends...the ole comfort zone you know?

...Ah yes, it’s well to remember the story about the little girl who questioned her wealthy father praying to God to help his neighbor by saying, “"But daddy, you can help himself yourself."
