Just listening to yourself in a monologue session isn’t a good idea.
So yes...Talk scripture to yourself. Ignore the lies and excuses yourself is always willing to tell you.
Talk what you know is truth to yourself. If you are feeding yourself with those promises of God you know and believe, your thought processes will automatically improve.
And these good and godly thoughts. Do not let them rust from disuse.
Do not let them be lost because it has been so long since you brought them out you have forgotten where you stored them.
They are positive, eternal promises and they are designed to make it easier to handle the negatives that are bound to come.
In short, don’t let your soul go on vacation. Life is a sacrament and you don’t take a vacation from a sacrament.
Let me tell you a story -
A man in a bar walked over to a friend who was sitting in a corner all by himself drinking. As he drew closer he saw that his friend looked terrible. “What’s the problem?” he asked.
My mother died in June,” he said, “and left me $10,000.”
“That’s tough,” replied the friend, “No wonder you look so bad, man …you lost your mother.”
“Then in July,” the morose man continued, “My father died, leaving me $50,000.”
“Wow! Two parents gone in two months. No wonder you’re depressed.”
“And last month my aunt died, and left me $15,000.”
“Three close family members lost in three months? Things haven’t been good, have they?”
“Then this past month,” continued, the friend, “nothing! Not a single dime.”
Let me share with you another story, this time a real-life story.
You may remember reading several years back about Oseola McCarty. She had lived in a small wooden frame house in Hattiesburg , Mississippi and worked her whole life as washer woman.
Then, in July 1995, she announced she was leaving $150,000 of her life’s savings to the University of Southern Mississippi . “I just want some others to have the chance for an education I never had,” was her explanation. She had dreamed of becoming a nurse but had to drop out of elementary school to help take care of sick relatives.
One story is of selfishness. The other story is of selflessness.
One individual was living with a shrunken soul. The other with a soul that stretched miles further than most.
