Isaiah 40:31
Those who hope in the Lord
shall renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they shall run and not grow weary;
they will walk and not be faint.
Grief hurts. It hurts bad.
It is an agony of the soul.
It is a knife that cuts and rips and slashes and makes us cry out in terrible pain. All of us have experienced it for one reason or the other: death, divorce, the loss of a career, terrible sickness in our own bodies or the bodies of those we love. It comes in different guises, but it always comes.
How best then can we deal with this emotional winter storm when it surges over and through us?
Some weep until there are no more tears left.
Some try to repress their heartache and, like a kettle with no escape valve, eventually explode.
Some take their wounded selves to God and there before the compassionate throne of grace cry out, “Dear Lord, let them debate the psychology of loss in the classroom - I am beyond that. I ask now only for Your special solace, “…. the special meaning that laughs in the face of time and bows in awe at the opening of Eternity.” (anonymous)
One thing is for sure, we all handle this emotion of anguish differently.
A husband and wife spent many week-ends fishing together. When she asked for a divorce and left him – he gave up fishing.
A father and son played golf each Saturday morning. When the boy was killed in an automobile accident – the father put their clubs out with for the trash man.
Two friends enjoyed hiking together.
Then they had a terrible fight and never spoke again. Afterwards, one of them never entered the woods again.
When what was is no more, many in anguish cry out into their darkness over and over again, “Why, God? Why me?” Some grow bitter and are overcome by galloping fear. Some shout at God in anger. And some pray with humility and are able to say, and mean, “Thy will be done, Lord.”
Would you ease your own grieving time? Then go out, and though still hurting or remembering how badly once you hurt, use your knowledge of pain to help others.
Willingly search for some other hurting survivor.
Hold the palsied hand of someone old and alone, or give patient love to a little lad or lass who obviously gets very little of it at home.
Be a loving friend who takes a day off from work to stand in those final moments by a grave.
In other words, move from the theological to the practical. Study the Sermon on the Mount and start building your own little hill of concern.

STARTED SUNDAY MARCH 5, 2011. Serialization of another book SIXTY PLUS AND NOT HOLDING
This book, SIXTY PLUS AND NOT HOLDING, is about dealing positively with the challenges of getting older and fosters the belief that “If we would have new knowledge, we must get a world of new questions.” (Susanne K. Langer)
“I am come that they (you) may have life and have it to the full. (John 10:10)
Anyone who lives long enough gets older. There are no other options. How we handle the adventure is filled with options.
Keep both eyes on life, and not on the calendar. Admit your age, but don’t admit to the fallacy that you have to act like it. Saying, “I’m 39 and holding,” is more tragic than humorous because it argues that age has no attributes.
V. Neil Wyrick
Below a quote from it…
“Be like the farmer who, when asked what he was building, replied, “if I can rent it, it’s a rustic cottage. If I can’t, it’s a cow shed.”
It’s called attitude and it can make us prematurely old or longer young. For truly, things aren’t just what they are, but rather how we choose to see them.”

It began Sunday Dec 26, 2010
“I have always been intrigued by a question God put to Adam, “Where are you?” Why did He ask that? What is the meaning behind this? It wasn’t a geographical question, for certainly God knew the answer to that one.

BELOW IS A QUOTE FROM the SERIES on this Wyrick’s Writings site entitled ANGER IS A KILLER. It began Thursday January 6, 2010.
“Do you enjoy visiting friends? More than likely you’re thinking, Preacher, of course, I do.
Now let me ask the other side of the coin - Do you enjoy visiting enemies? No?
Well, I know you must enjoy visiting at least one enemy because, like myself, you probably visit this one quite often. Unfortunately, we all …visit this enemy…whose name is anger.
Some visit anger seldom . Some on a regular basis. And during those visits, some spew and others stew.”
