Do you want from Jesus all the joy that can be gained from fully accepting the fact that you are truly the child of a King? So that when you die you will not have to ask that someone write on your tombstone, “Born a human being, died a question mark.”
Many years ago there was a movie called RED SHOES. The story line deals with a girl totally dedicated to dancing. Early in the film she goes to a master teacher and before he will take her as a student he asks, “And why do you wish to dance?”
Without a moments hesitation she replies, “Why do you want to live?”
What should you want from Jesus? That you not have so much to live with you forget what to live for.
We all pray for peace and power; pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to move within. And that’s a wow prayer…in particular because the Greek word in the New Testament for power means dynamite. So yes, when you pray to Jesus and list your wants, put the power of the Holy Spirit at the top of the list. It can truly blow your mind.
What do you want from Jesus? A life guided by faith rather than by fear, I would imagine. David put it well in case you can’t find the proper words “Though
an army besiege me, my heart shall not fear; though war should rise
against me, even then will I be confident. (Psalm 27:3)
Phillip Brooks, the great preacher said, “Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men and women! Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers but rather pray for powers equal to your tasks.”
What do you want from Jesus?
It all really comes down to the question, “Who is this Jesus?” Well, I suppose the old hymn “What a Friend we have in Jesus” spells it out pretty well. Because a true friend is a true friend 24 hours a day. Loves us and supports us no matter what. Forgives us. And yes, a true friend would even give their life for us. That’s what’s so great about Jesus.
And when you pray to Jesus always remember that He never said, “I’ll show you the way.” Rather He said, “I am the way.”
Then having accepted that Jesus is the Son of God, remember how He got even more specific, “…apart from Me you can do nothing.” Well, since He stands before the throne of grace ready to argue for your salvation, I believe we can give a resounding “Yes!”
At an afternoon tea for officers and their wives, the Commanding General stood up to speak. An hour later he was still rambling on and on. A
lieutenant who by then could hardly keep his eyes open turned to the
woman at his side and commented, “How long is that unbearable old
windbag going to keep talking?”
“Do you know who I am?” asked the woman.
“No, I don’t,” replied the officer.
“I am the wife of that unbearable old windbag?”
“Do you know who I am?” countered the Lieutenant, rapidly growing red in the face.
“No, I don’t,” replied the woman.
“Thank God,” answered the young lieutenant and melted into the crowd.
Thank God, and that is a prayer, that Jesus does know who you are, and loves you and forgives you and does not want you to melt into the crowd that ignored Him at the cross.
Sometimes it is good not to be known. When it comes to Jesus, it’s the other way around.
