The Galilee Gallery and other" NEW TESTAMENT CHARACTERS You OUGHT To Know BETTER
To better understand Jesus and the earthly world in which He lived,
it is important to know those around Him.

 THE APOSTLES
OF THE MANY WHO FOLLOWED JESUS, HE CHOSE ONLY TWELVE TO BE HIS APOSTLES
                                        Twelve Minus One
 CAIAPHAS (John 18:14)

CAIAPHAS was the chief prosecutor and high priest of the Sanhedrin who said to Nicodemus that "it was expedient that one man (Jesus) should die for the people."
He also argued that because of the miracles Jesus was performing "the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation."

He spoke nobly, but his real motives were for power motivated by personal animosity. Actually, he did not appreciate Jesus' constant moral comments.
Being a member of Sanhedrin he believed that if a moral law was not written down it had no divine authority.

Nor was he, or members of that sect, believers in resurrection after death, or reward or punishment after a man died. And greed played its part as well.
His father-in-law, Annas. owned the money changers that were driven out of the temple.

The final conflict was a given. Nor should any be surprised that when Caiaphas asked Jesus, " ..... Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?" than Jesus replied. 'I am and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One (God) and coming on the clouds of heaven." (Mark: 14:61-62)
HEROD .ANTIPAS (Luke 9:7)

Herod was a child of Cleopatra -a native of Jerusalem, one of Herod the Greats five wives.

He was the tetrarch of Galilee, a gift of Augusta Caesar as his share of his father's estate.

On the whole he was willing to do anything to advance the power of his rulership; even offering to spy on his own brothers as well as Roman officials.

Pilate, looking for a scapegoat, wanted Herod to sentence Jesus.

In other words, do his dirty work for him. However, Herod already had the beheading of John the Baptist on his conscience and he did not need any more such actions added to his resume' .

In later years, all did not go well for Herod Antipas. After the death of the Roman emperor,

Tiberius. the new emperor, Caligula, had him banished. Until this untimely ending be had ruled over Galilee for forty plus years.
