In Christopher Marlowe’s play “The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus” envy defines itself.

It says, “I am Envy.  Begotten of a Chimney Sweeper and an Oyster Wife.

I cannot read and wish, therefore, that all books were burned.

I am lean with seeing others eat.

Oh, that there would be a famine, through all the world, that all might die, and I, alone live.

Then thou shouldst see how fat I would die.

What a futile, childish, vain emotion to allow ones life to be ruled by.  But the slaves to this state of mind are many, and they weep and cause those around them to weep.  And I think God himself weeps because of the misery this weakness produces.

The seat of God in the Holy Tabernacle of ancient Israel was called the “mercy seat.

The core of the law of Moses is mercy.

And Jesus came to re-initiate mercy into a

church which had largely become law and had lost love.

The Bible is full of case histories concerning envy.

Cain and Abel, Joseph with his coat of many colors, Christ and the Chief Priest and Scribes.

The parable of the Elder brother and parable of the Prodigal son.

All the handiwork of Envy.

WHICH IS BETTER TO BE?  A WINDOW OR A DOOR” ” “BE A RAINBOW SEARCHER AND FINDER” “IS YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION?
